Our Practice
We are a certified Cat-Friendly Practice! Our Cat Clinic is a Gold Cat-Friendly Practice certified by the American Academy of Feline Practitioners (AAFP).
For a long time, we have been trying to come up with ways to create less stressful visits for our feline patients. According to a recent survey, 58% of cat owners report that their cat hates going to the veterinarian, and 38% report they get stressed just thinking about bringing their cat to the practice. (1)
One thing that can cause a lot of stress is the presence of dogs. Due to the size of our main building, it was not feasible to create separate dog and cat areas. In 2013 we introduced “Cat-Friendly Wednesdays”, with Wednesday afternoons set aside for cats only. This worked well but was not ideal.
In 2015, a building very close to ours (almost next door!) became available. We decided to sign the lease and create a hospital just for cats and other small animals! We worked hard to make this dream a reality, we opened our Cat Clinic in January 2016.
On April 15, 2016, we achieved the official Cat-Friendly Practice designation from the American Academy of Feline Practitioners. For more information about what this means to you as a cat owner visit the AAFP’s website.
In September 2016, we expanded our Cat Clinic with the addition of Dr. Christine Hanney to our SVC family. Dr. Hanney brought over 14 years of feline-exclusive practice experience and was a fabulous addition to our team.
Dr. Julie Hermansen joined our Cat Clinic in September 2020, another wonderful addition to our family of excellent feline-only practitioners.
